'YOU'VE GOTTA PICK-A-POCKET OR TWO, BOYS'
Consider yourself.....in for a real musical treat
Rehearsals are well underway for next month's local production of Oliver!
As reported, it is being stage by the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Amateur Operatic Society at Grimsby Auditorium. The production is Lionel Bart's ever-popular version, based on Charles Dickens' classic novel, Oliver Twist. The Society auditioned scores of youngsters for the leading roles of Oliver and the Artful Dodger, and eventually chose four local lads.
Now the entire cast is in place, the lines learned and the dance routines are in the process of being polished to absolute perfection. Society spokeswoman Emma McCutcheon said: "Oliver is one of the most endearing - and enduring tales around.
"The music is beautiful and everyone identifies with the plot." "We are having such fun!" The talented cast cannot wait to get in the spotlight again, and tickets are selling very well.
Emma added: "It's such a popular musical and we are really looking forward to taking our audiences on a trip back in time."

Please Sir, can we have an Oliver?Grimsby and Cleethorpes Amateur Operatic Society's next production is Oliver, based on the Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist - and the search is on
One of the most iconic images of all time is that of little Oliver holding a bowl in his hands, asking "Please sir, can I have some more?"
And now, the Society is looking for a talented youngster to fill those shoes for a week-long run of the musical..................
......"We are looking for boys aged between 8 and 14 years to come along. but there are conditions of course - they must have unbroken voices and be no taller than 5ft 4in.
Anyone wanting to take part must have some knowledge of the songs made famous in Oliver! - Food Glorious Food, Where is Love and Consider Yourself."
The Society will also be casting the part of the Artful Dodger and about 40 boys for the chorus of workhouse boys and Fagin's gang. They need to fit the same requirements as Oliver. The show is a musical adaptation of Dickens classic tale of an orphan who runs away from the orphanage and hooks up with a group of boys trained to be pickpockets by an elderly mentor.Oliver Twist is sold to a Dunstable undertaker after asking for more dinner at the orphanage.
Escaping to London, he is taken in by Fagin to join his gang of child pickpockets. But he is wrongly accused of theft, and meets a more kindly gentleman who takes him in, much to the concern of one of Fagin's old pupils, the violent Bill Sykes. In the middle is Nancy - Syles' girl - whom Oliver has come to trust.
Chorus rehearsals have already begun for the production, which will be staged at Grimsby Auditorium....
..."We may be an amateur society but the show will be anything but.
Last year we did Fiddler on the Roof and it was produced very professionally and our actors worked very hard
We pride ourselves on putting on very high quality shows in the local area"
ARE YOU THE NEXT OLIVER?
